Bathroom Blinds

Bathroom blinds are a great alternative rather than using curtains in your lavatory. But you still have to make wise decisions when putting the right kind of blind in your bathroom. Not all blinds belong in this type of setting due to the harsh and humid nature of the surrounding environment. There is a lot of steam and humidity emitted in almost all bathrooms in all houses, unless you and your entire family are the kind of people who only prefer and only take cold showers. If not, at one point or another their is going to be steam coming out of the shower and flowing through the room. Because of that, the right type of blind needs to be installed. But just what is the best bathroom blind? Let’s take a look at a few and come up with the criteria for the perfect blind for your bathroom.

One of the first considerations that you’ve got to take in account for an appropriate bathroom window blinds is the level of privacy you are willing to maintain because the bathroom is probably one of the most private places in your house. You don’t want anyone to be able to catch a glimpse of you parading around in your birthday suit singing into that hair brush like your at a concert on Saturday night, after all, this is a private show and not one that’s open to the public. Make sure that the blind will fully cover the entire window and that the slats will close very snug so that any prying eyes can’t peep.

I’ve found that there really are two excellent choices that can maintain this level of privacy very well. The first one are 2″ faux wood blinds. These blinds have slats that are much bigger than standard blinds and most brands close exceptionally well because they are a bit heavier due to the wider slats. I think that helps some in keeping them shut when needed. The other kind are bathroom roller blinds. These are not your typical venetian type blinds, instead they have a fabric that you can unroll to cover your entire window. No need to worry about the slats with these. They are a lot less expensive and a good all around solution that lets you completely control just how much light enters the bathroom or who won’t be able to peer in whenever they wanted. Installing them are pretty easy in that they mount just like most blinds inside the recess of the window, but the better part is you can easily pair them up with some pretty curtains to add a bit more decorative flair and cover them up entirely and still maintain that precious element of privacy. They are not the prettiest things you’ll ever see but there are some that come with a decorative style.

The next thing you need to consider when selecting blinds for bathroom windows is the material. Like we talked about above, the bathroom is a wet and humid place so the materials you put in there need to be able to withstand that environment. Knowing that, a beautiful wood blind might not be the most optimal of choices for a bathroom as wood and water typically mean problems. Wood and water don’t play well together. On the contrary, faux wood blinds could do really well in a bathroom environment as they are not made out of wood, even alluminum blinds can do great. If you are looking at roller blinds then you just need to make sure that the material is made from something waterproof, vinyl does a good job in this area. If it’s not waterproof or is an actual fabric that has been untreated, these don’t fair very well in a humid bathroom. They’ll quickly mold and mildew because of how wet they become from those hot showers. If they are water-resistant, they’ll do much, much better.

This will leave you a little bit limited in material choices for blinds, but it certainly doesn’t mean the amount of choices available are limited. Window blinds these days come in so many different styles and colors that wherever you land, there’s going to be something that will fit perfect in your bathroom window. Designing your bathroom should be a fun time that lets you express you and an excellent way of doing that is finding the right bathroom blind to suit your design style and needs.
