If you are looking for new roller blinds for your house, you have a lot of choices to make. What material do you want them to be made of? What color works best in your room? What size do you need? A lot of the answers to these questions come down to personal taste and will depend on the style of your property. Perhaps a simple design will enhance the ambiance of the room more than a more complicated floral design for example. Finally you need to consider budget. The aim in this regard is to purchase good quality blinds. Remember that quality is somewhat independent of price. You can find some great bargains on the market that are still of perfectly acceptable quality. Likewise you can occasionally find very expensive blinds that are of poor quality or that really would not enhance the room you want to put them in.
In this article we are going to focus on one room of your house in particular: the bathroom. Bathroom roller blinds need to have a few additional properties when compared to conventional roller blinds. For example, depending on the placement of the blinds, they really need to be waterproof or at the very least damp proof. When you turn on a shower the humidity of the room can increase to 100%. If your roller blinds are not damp resistant it is possible to develop problems with mildew. In addition, over time, the color may fade or even run. If the blind is going to be very near the bathroom window, it is even more important for the blind to be waterproof. Materials such as aluminum are therefore great for bathroom use whereas more permeable, fabric based blinds are less ideal. Real wood blinds are also not suited for bathroom use as they can suffer from wood rot. If you want a wood effect, you will have to settle for a wood veneer finish instead.
A particularly nice choice for use in a bathroom are bamboo roller blinds. These fit into many interior design schemes very well and have the water resistant properties we have mentioned.
Don’t worry that having water proof blinds means having boring blinds! There are plenty of patterned roller blinds available that still will resist water damage. Really the only rule is to avoid real wood or fabric roller blinds.
Black out roller blinds are also less ideal as these tend to involve thick fabric layers. You are unlikely to need black out roller blinds anyway since keeping as much light as possible out of a bathroom is rarely the number one priority. Black out blinds are also usually more expensive than other types of blind so avoiding this will also save you money!
So now we know what kind of blinds we are looking for let’s take a look at some examples of waterproof roller blinds that might do the job.
There are countless roller blind manufacturers out there today. Check your local stores to see what they have available. But don’t rely on this alone. If you don’t see something you like in the shop then look for the manufacturers online. If you find a blind you prefer then order it directly or ask your local store to place an order for you. A good store will want you as their customer and should be more than happy to agree to your request.
JCPenney stock some nice bamboo roller blinds for only $17.99. Other stores include Sears and The Home Depot. Expect to pay anything up to the $60 mark for high quality bamboo roller blinds. Out of the box roller blinds are all very well but for a great finished look, try to buy blinds customized to the exact dimensions of your window.
To complete the look of your bathroom window, pay attention to the roller blind rod to make sure that it will fit into your style scheme. Some of them come with a chrome finished rod and these look really neat in a bathroom.
And there you have it! Once you have chosen a blind design that you like, in a material you know will last you for years and have added finishing touches like a chrome pole, your bathroom will undoubtedly look fantastic!
Hopefully this article has given you a few useful tips and you now feel confident in buying the ideal bathroom roller blinds that you’ll be happy with for years to come.
