Choosing Bathroom Shutters

Until recently the bathroom was not really the object of attention when homeowners decided to redecorate their home. The bathroom has always primarily been seen as a place for personal hygiene and not one for style. But with the idea of luxury bathroom, saunas, steam showers, jetted tubs being available to the average person this has changed. The bathroom has become not only a place for hygiene but one to relax and indulge yourself as well. This means that style is playing a whole new role in the bathroom, and that includes the windows. When you are choosing bathroom shutters there are two things to consider, privacy and style.

One of the most popular types of bathroom shutters are plantation shutters. These types of bathroom shutters are a type that do not move, and so are ideally suited for bathroom windows that are often placed above a sink or shower. The last thing that you want is for the shutters to fall into the shower while you are in it. Plantation shutters are attached to a solid frame in the window and have a rod down the middle that will rotate the slats open or closed. Typically they are made of wood, but if wood frightens you because of the humidity of the bathroom environment you can also choose vinyl, faux wood, or plastic. While plantation shutters cannot block all light from a room, they do enough to be effective and to keep your privacy.

Accordion shutters are another type of bathroom shutters that homeowners can choose. This kind of shutter is a folding shutter that combines two or more panels together so that they fold into each other in a single direction. While plantation shutters only have one set per window, accordion shutters typically have two; one that opens to the right and one that opens to the left. They are good for use as bathroom shutters because they give you versatile privacy options. You don’t have to open or close the entire thing at once. If you only want to open one side of your bathroom shutters and leave the other side closed, these allow you to do that

One thing that your bathroom shutters need to be is sturdy. The bathroom is a very wet and humid place, and this environment can damage typical wood shutters. If you want to have wood shutters then be sure to get them treated so that they are not damaged by the humidity, or you can always go with faux wood shutters, which tend to be easier to maintain.

No matter what kind, color, style, or type of bathroom shutters you choose be sure that they match your personal style. You want your bathroom to be somewhere that you enjoy and can relax whenever you are in there, without sacrificing your privacy.
